*This Charlotte Mason Simple Spanish Year 1 Unit 1 product is a digital download.

Charlotte Mason suggested students learn 2-6 words a day. Our goal will be to learn 6 a day, but we will slowly get there. I recommend you start with 2-3 new words per day and go through this unit in 2 weeks (adjust it to 1 week if you've had some exposure to Spanish so that it doesn't feel too slow).

This unit includes:

-An intro letter explaining more about the curriculum (includes helpful tips!)

-Instructions for the Informal Lessons

-Instructions for the Formal Lessons

-Printing instructions

-A sample schedule

-A list of links to the audios for this unit

-A book list for the whole year (3 books)

-A Unit Overview. (I like to keep these on the fridge or a very visible area to remind me of all the activities for the unit.)

-A Word List. (This list has all the new words introduced in this unit.)

-Spanish Challenge: The Spanish Challenge will help you practice speaking Spanish more regularly around your home. For this unit, we recommend that every member of your family replace “Good morning” with “Buenos días.” You can even keep track of how many times each of you uses it correctly and have a contest where the winner may choose a meal, or a park to play at. If you only have little ones that aren’t ready to speak Spanish, then the challenge would be just for you. You will add a little more Spanish to your daily life with these challenges.

-A poem. I have intentionally chosen classic/living literature (poems, books, etc) that was originally written in Spanish (not translations into Spanish). This allows the student access to authentic literature and Spanish speaking culture.

-A song. It has always been so hard for me to find traditional Spanish children's songs that are pleasant for an adult to hear over and over, so I contacted a couple of talented friends and asked them to record children's music for my curriculum, and oh, I am really loving what they’re doing! Listen to the song every day. Listen to as much Spanish music as possible. Dance to it, play it while you're cooking or when your child just needs a break.

-A Gouin Series. I wrote some about the Gouin Series on my website, but it basically is a series of sentences describing an action. (Some refer to this as “Total Physical Response.”) These activities will help your child to think in Spanish and not translate everything in his mind. If you speak Spanish, try to do this with other activities throughout the day.

-A science poster. For some families, getting out into nature is more of a challenge, but these activities can still be done at home! Just tell your child you will pretend they see the tree or butterfly etc. in the living room. If you do go on regular nature walks, you can put the poster in your nature journal so that you don’t forget to bring it with you.

*Every unit also has a Bible verse that is short and simple but has important names of people or places in it. You can go to my webpage and under the recommended resources click on the audio Bible. You might do something as simple as just listen to it to expose your child to Bible words in Spanish, or you can have your child repeat the Bible verse, or even memorize it. *Each month you will have a suggestion of a psalm. You can just listen to it, sing it, or try to memorize it, etc. (I have a link to a Psalm Songs Youtube channel on my recommended resources page.)
