Learn to Speak, Read, and Understand Spanish Through Conversation, Grammar, and Classic Literature!

At Simple Languages Online Academy, we believe learning a foreign language should be both enjoyable and intellectually enriching.

No previous Spanish experience is required!

Spanish 4 is designed for students ages 9 and older who are ready for a more structured approach to learning Spanish.

And the best part? Parents don't need to speak Spanish or teach the lessons!

What Makes Spanish 4 Special?

🌿 Natural Language Acquisition Meets Formal Spanish Study

In our younger levels, children develop their understanding of Spanish primarily through listening, speaking, songs, stories, and games.

Spanish 4 continues building on these important foundations while introducing students to more structured language study.

Students begin exploring Spanish grammar in a gentle, age-appropriate way, learning to recognize patterns and understand how the language works.

Rather than overwhelming students with complicated grammar rules and endless exercises, we introduce grammar gradually and in connection with the Spanish they are already learning.

Our goal is to help students understand Spanish, communicate confidently, and develop a deeper knowledge of the language.

📖 Learn Spanish Through Stories and Classic Literature

Reading continues to be an important part of our Spanish curriculum.

In Spanish 4, students practice reading through engaging stories and selections from classic literature.

These readings help students:

  • Develop Spanish reading fluency

  • Recognize familiar vocabulary in context

  • Strengthen comprehension

  • Become familiar with Spanish sentence structures

  • Encounter beautiful and meaningful language

  • Develop an appreciation for literature in another language

We believe that learning to read in Spanish should involve more than isolated sentences or repetitive exercises.

Students should have the opportunity to encounter real stories and worthwhile literature as they develop their language skills.

Your enrollment includes digital PDF copies of the classic books used in the course, so there is no need to purchase them separately.

📝 A Gentle Introduction to Spanish Grammar

Spanish 4 introduces students to the foundations of Spanish grammar.

Grammar is taught gradually, helping students begin understanding how words and sentences work together.

Rather than making grammar the center of every lesson, we use it to support students' growing ability to read, understand, and communicate in Spanish.

This approach allows students to develop a stronger understanding of the language without losing the joy of learning it.

💬 Continue Developing Conversational Spanish

Although Spanish 4 introduces more formal language study, conversation remains an essential part of every lesson.

Students continue learning through:

  • Listening to spoken Spanish

  • Answering questions

  • Participating in conversations

  • Describing pictures and situations

  • Reading and discussing stories

  • Practicing pronunciation

  • Learning songs and poetry

  • Developing confidence speaking Spanish

Our teachers use comprehensible input, gestures, pictures, repetition, and meaningful interaction to help students understand Spanish naturally.

We don't want students to simply know grammar rules. We want them to use Spanish!

🎵 A Charlotte Mason–Inspired Approach

Our curriculum combines the beauty of Charlotte Mason's educational philosophy with effective language acquisition techniques.

Students encounter Spanish through:

  • Meaningful conversations

  • Classic literature

  • Stories and storytelling

  • Poetry and recitation

  • Traditional Spanish songs

  • Reading practice

  • Gentle grammar instruction

  • Interactive language activities

We believe foreign-language education should nourish the mind while developing practical communication skills.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. Does my child need to complete Spanish 1–3 before enrolling?

No!

Spanish 4 is designed as a starting point for older students who are beginners.

Students do not need previous Spanish experience.

We include a Basics of Spanish video that introduces essential vocabulary, such as greetings, colors, numbers, and common expressions, at a faster pace appropriate for older students.

This allows them to begin Spanish 4 without completing the younger levels first.

2. Is Spanish 4 appropriate for complete beginners?

Absolutely!

Although Spanish 4 introduces more formal language study, it is still designed to accommodate beginners.

Our teachers introduce new vocabulary, conversations, reading, and grammar gradually.

3. How is Spanish 4 different from Spanish 3?

Spanish 3 focuses primarily on developing conversational Spanish while helping students begin learning to read through songs, poems, and our Spanish adaptation of the McGuffey Primer.

Spanish 4 continues developing conversation and reading skills but introduces more formal Spanish study, gentle grammar, and classic literature.

Both levels can accommodate beginners, but Spanish 4 is designed for students who are developmentally ready for a more structured approach.
